It sounds silly, but think about it…
If we go to the zoo, do we act like the animals? Do we begin to walk on all fours… make animalistic sounds… attempt to enter the cages…?
If we go to a botanical garden, do we imitate the flowers and plants? Do we try to climb into the soil… position our hands like branches and stems… freeze in position to bask in the sunlight…?
If we go to a car dealership, do we emulate a vehicle? Do we park ourselves on the concrete… make engine revving sounds… allow someone to climb on our backs for a ride…?
If we go to a playground, do we mimic the turf? Do we entangle ourselves with the swing for someone to ride… let someone climb us… allow someone to slide down our body…?
No, No, No, and No are the answers to each of the ridiculous scenarios given.
Yet, we, Christ followers, are not of this world and we get caught acting like this world (2Cor6:17). We are in this world but not of it (John17:14-15), so the struggle is to be expected but not to succumb to. We must live according to Who we were called to be and not where we have currently been assigned to live (Philip1:27-30). The current geographic location does not have to dictate our present lifestyle (Lev18:1-5). So let us fix our eyes on the right things (Philip4:8) and pray for Kingdom tunnel vision (Prov4:25) that forces us to seek the right priorities (Matt6:33) instead of obsessing over the wrong things that will inevitably lead us astray (1J2:15-17). In doing so, we present ourselves in a manner worthy of His approval (Rom12:1) and that will lead others to do the same (1P5:3).
