Have you ever gone swimming in a pool or at the beach? Though you are experiencing a great time in the water, you may or may not notice the subtle impairment of your vision from the foreign agent (chlorine or salt). Sometimes you have to get out of the water and get help to flush your eyes out. At times the water within your tear ducts will begin to release an increased amount of water to cleanse your eyes from the inside purging out what doesn’t belong.
Have you ever worn contact lenses for a long day or fallen asleep with them still on? You awaken and become undoubtedly cognizant of the impaired state of your vision. You try to take immediate action and find yourself in a battle as the grip of the contact on your eye is relentless. It took a little bit of time to get to this state of compromised sight, so you likely were not paying attention to notice what was happening. Yet, irrespective of the time it took, you simply want to see clearly Now! You get to the place where you realize… these contacts have got to go!
Deception can be that subtle and compromising!
The enemy wants to compromise our vision (instructive sight) from God, even if it is just a little bit, because without that vision we will perish (Prov29:18). Lord (Master) God gave Adam clear instructive vision (Gen2:16-17) for him to obey. Satan, knowing God, but refusing to submit to His Lordship, spoke to Eve as if he and her were BOTH free agents on the same side (knowing “God” but not submitting to “Lord God”) and she bought it (Gen3:1,3).
Satan ever so slightly altered the divine vision with doubt and deception in a moment (Gen3:1-6) and destroyed the state of the world as sin entered in (Gen3:7).
Jesus had spent such intimate and fruitful time with many, but with each group, a stronger bond was evident (many followed, but there were 12 disciples, and then the closer three). As the three year journey was closer to the end, Jesus began to reveal God’s plan and Peter, being led by his emotions not God given vision, rebuked Jesus for stating His death (Matt16:22). Jesus told His beloved Peter, “…Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” (Matt16:23 NLT). Peter allowed his vision to be compromised by a foreign agent, Satan, the enemy of our soul.
Paul thought he was sold out for God. He was on a mission to be the best (Acts9:1) at his Pharisaical trained assignment on the road to Damascus considering his knowledge and accomplishments (Philip3:5-6). Yet he was knocked off of his “high horse” and totally blind to The Truth (Acts9:4-5,8). Paul allowed this religious evil spirit to influence him. His vision, though it “appeared” as good instruction, was compromised and subtly off base to where it was offending Jesus in a personal way (Acts9:4). But when Paul got help from Ananias, who flushed his eyes with water (the words Jesus instructed him to speak), the scales were removed (Acts9:17-18) and his God given vision was received (most of the New Testament books written by Paul).
Charles Spurgeon said, “Discernment isn’t just knowing the difference between right and wrong. Often it is knowing between right and almost right.”
Let us be a people who have… -ears to hear (Rev2:29,3:22). -been given eyes to see with spiritual discernment (Prov20:12). -so much of the word stored up in us (Psa119:11) that it would cleanse us (Eph5:26) from all unrighteousness to maintain a clear vision as we seek to fulfill the call of The Lord on our lives for His glory!
